Fear and Crime

What is fear? I live in South Africa a country where the headlines in the media are dominated with stories about violent crime. Everyday I am bombarded by news items that describe terrible abuses and acts of violence. My family is a victim of such a crime, I will not go into the details because I want to move on and forget. Its a way of coping, I choose not to think about the facts. When will we be free to live our lives without a fear of stopping at a intersection at night and being hijacked, and killed for our cars. When will we be able to walk in the street at night without a fear of being murdered for a watch.
I love this country, it is amazing and beautiful. But I am starting to think that its time to move on and leave. I have a real fear for myself and my family. Maybe I'm overreacting? I certainly hope so. But do I have to wait till something even more terrible happens and forces me to leave? Or should I run like so many are doing so that I can prevent harm coming to me and my family? I just don't know what to do. We have a life here, and have worked very hard to make a home. But I am at a point in my life where I have to make a decision, one that will plant us firmly here or one that has us moving onto greener pastures.
I know it will not be easy either way. And I don't have to choose right now. But the crime situation is certainly a huge factor to be considered.

What a great weekend, I spent the whole of Sunday on the beach. Chilling and relaxing, there is nothing like getting your mind back on track on our amazing beaches. And surprisingly I am having a great week by the looks of it. My to-do list at this stage only has two items on it(I hope that I have not forgotten something). And my schedule looks great!
Conclusion: Zen on the weekend, Zen in the Week

I am off for a haircut, my worst. I'm one of those people that hate going to the hairdresser. I don't know why, but I just constantly procrastinate when I comes to having my hair cut. So eventually I resemble a yeti (as I have wild uncontrollable curls). It gets to the point that no amount of conditioning can get that afro down. So I make an appointment and have it cut.

I just hate sitting in that chair starring at myself while someone cuts my hair. To make matters worse I have difficult hair, so it takes so much longer to cut. I also hate the meaning less chit chat that one is supposed to engage in with the hairdresser. "No, I dont want to talk about the weather, or where I work, or what I'm reading. Because if you concentrate on cutting my hair. I'll be out of here faster" runs through my head. Does that make me a total freak, probably not. But there is something strange about my fear of coiffuring.

What a great morning, I slept like a baby and only woke up at 11. I feel absolutely refreshed and ready to go into my meeting later. The weather is a bit crap, all overcast and cloudy, so it will probably rain tomorrow, bummer. I was hoping to spend a day at the beach. And if it does not rain I still plan to do so, got the new NGM and cant wait to hit the sand and hang on the beach all day.

I also hooked up with an old mate on skype, we have been friends since high school and hardly ever see each other cause he lives in London, and only comes down once a year. Now that I got him on skype we can see each other more often.

I used to be a huge fan of the show House. And over the last few month have just not had time to watch it. I got to the end of season 2, and had a couple episodes of season 3 which I tried watching last night, and did not get very far into it. What has happened to the show? Its gotten so predictable and boring, and also not very believable. I don't know much about medicine but, some of the scenarios are just a bit unrealistic. Like a man waking up from a coma after 10 years, he proceeds to jump up out of bed and is in perfect physical condition to drive and eat. Now I think that after ten years of not moving and not eating solid food, it would be a little difficult to even breath. So I watched two episodes and went to sleep. Thats probably the reason why I'm so fresh today. I'm planning to stay at home tonight again so I better rent some dvd's to keep me entertained. Have nothing new left to watch on my pc, and wont be returning to House for a while.

Ok, I'm sitting in my air conditioned office freezing my ass off and eating hot two minute noodle soup for breakfast just to keep warm. What comes to mind are the immortal words spoken by Tom Cruise in Interview with a Vampire "it gets cold so fast" as he drinks rat blood from a cup.

I know thats is Friday, yet somehow all excitement of this has left me. Once again I have to work tomorrow afternoon, and am unable to spend a perfectly happy weekend in the berg with my friends which we planned weeks ago. Ok, enough of feeling sorry for myself.

During my scouring(ok, now its just everywhere) of the news online I was surprised about the firing of David Bullard from the Sunday Times:

Now, he has never been a favorite of mine, in fact I find him too abrasive with my Sunday morning hot chocolate and croissant. I do however think though that if the Sunday Times considered his article unsuitable for its publication then they should not have printed it. I disagree with the article completely, but have a passion for discussion and playing devils advocate and think that the editor should be partly responsible and liable in some way. Maybe I don't have a grasp over the finer workings of a newspaper publication, but surely someone reads the stuff before they publish it?
